3 Berlin Clubs That Are Easier To Get Into Than Berghain

Looking for Berlin clubs that are easier to get into than Berghain?

You’ve no doubt heard the legendary stories about Berlin’s hardest door: Berghain. Think hours of queuing only to be met with a nein.

Let’s be real: Berghain can be a challenge, even for seasoned-regulars and locals, never mind tourists! But if you’re looking for somewhere to let loose during your holiday to Berlin, not to worry. Berlin’s nightlife scene is vast and varied, offering plenty of fantastic alternatives.

Here are three clubs that are renowned for their welcoming atmosphere and great music:

1. Tresor

If you want the same industrial feel as Berghain, make your way across the Spree to Tresor. A true Berlin institution, this iconic club has been a cornerstone of the city’s electronic music scene since the early 1990s. While it holds a special place in the hearts of many, Tresor’s door policy is generally less strict compared to Berghain. However, the building (housed in a former power plant) and music bookings (techno downstairs, house/electro upstairs in Globus) are similar to Berghain without (hopefully) a two-hour wait.

2. Renate

For something totally different, head further south in Friedrichshain to Renate. This place blew my mind when I first moved here. It’s a renovated apartment building, and you can still get that feeling. Downstairs is a sprawling courtyard and the techno floor, plus a cozy little bar. Upstairs, there are two (& sometimes more) rooms of house, electro, tech-house, and much more.

The vibe here is much more colorful than Berghain. It’s a great place to go with a group, as people can split off into whatever floor/genre they prefer.

Renate was scheduled to close at the end of 2025, but fortunately, their lease has been renewed.

3. Kater Blau

For a more laid-back and eclectic atmosphere, Kater Blau (German slang for hangover) is an excellent choice. This sprawling complex features multiple indoor and outdoor areas, including a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the city. It’s a great choice if you want to tuck in somewhere for most of the weekend. Musically, Kater Blau offers a mix of house, techno, and live acts, attracting a diverse color-loving crowd.

Remember, while these clubs are generally easier to get into than Berghain, it’s always a good idea to arrive early, dress appropriately, and be friendly to the door staff. Enjoy your Berlin night out!
