5 Most Unusual Hotels in Berlin
Last Updated on June 13, 2025
When my mom first visited me in Berlin, she told me the city was quirky. And I’d have to agree. Berlin might be some years on from those wild 1989 reunification days. But it carries its unique spirit into modern times.
It only makes sense that Berlin is the city that makes you finally step out of the boutique hotel box you didn’t know you were stuck in!

5 Most Unusual Berlin Hotels
Here are our picks for some of the most unusual places to stay in Berlin, Germany:

1. Michelberger
The Michelberger is a Berlin institution. But it’s a unique choice in comparison to your average hotel. Of course, there’s a cute bar/lounge in the lobby where you can spot the many musicians staying here. There’s a Byron Katie book in every guest room and The Big Lebowski playing in an infinite loop on every TV. They also frequently offer music events and more.

2. Hüttenpalast
If you want something truly different, try this! Hüttenplast is a unique hotel where the rooms consist mostly of caravans. (There are also some loft rooms for rent.) It’s definitely a quirky choice! To give you an idea of the clientele, Caroline Calloway stayed here when she visited Berlin!

3. Wilmina
The Wilmina is a gorgeously renovated modern hotel, housed in a former women’s prison. But not to worry–several cells have been combined to create the current rooms, all of which have a relaxing white minimalist design. The west side location gives you the perfect jumping-off point for shopping on the Ku’damm.

4. Hotel Oderberger
Hands down, the star of Hotel Oderberger is the 65-foot-long pool. Set beneath a vaulted stone ceiling and arched columns, the pool makes a stunning first impression from the lobby. However, the building itself is also worth a look: a renovated bathhouse first designed by architect Ludwig Hoffmann, who also designed the city’s iconic Pergamon Museum.

5. Schlosshotel Berlin
Want to spend the night in an old palace? Okay, so it’s not a real palace. But as the name suggests, it’s heavily inspired by the royal lifestyle. This one’s not exactly budget-friendly. But if you’re the type to do it for the ‘gram, this is a stunning location.
