Ultimate Guide To Vegan Food in Berlin, Germany
You might assume that vegan food would be hard to come by in meat-loving Germany. But that’s not the case in Berlin. Due to its long-established leftist punk community, it has long since been a haven for vegan food. Dare I say, Berlin might even be a contender for the vegan capital of the world!
Happily, that means vegans are almost always well-served in Berlin. Most restaurants will have a vegan option. Even the tiny bakeries on the Ubahn platforms sometimes sell vegan croissants!
But so much choice might get overwhelming. So if you’re a Berliner looking for a new vegan place to try out or a vegan visitor planning your big trip to Berlin, this list of the best vegan restaurants in Berlin should keep you going.
Please Note: To save space, we focused on mostly vegan/vegetarian restaurants for this guide! There are plenty of great vegan dishes at regular restaurants in Berlin as well.

Vegan Pizza in Berlin
La Stella Negra
La Stella Negra was the first fully vegan pizza joint in town, located not far from Templehofer Feld. But history aside, their menu is a stand-out: Neapolitan pizza, antipasti, salads and, of course, the desserts. Try the Pizza Rossa (capers and olives) or the Pizza Blanca (walnuts and ricotta). They also offer vegan wine.
Tip: It gets busy so book ahead!

Falco Slice
I went here recently without knowing the concept and was pleasantly blown away. Think: giant delicious pizzas in either vegetarian or fully vegan varieties. I split half a pizza with a friend and it was more than enough, especially when combined with some of the house wine. Surprisingly, my favorite was the lemon broccoli version but the truffle mushroom was a close runner-up.

Al Catzone
What happens when Italians make vegan pizza? Find out at Al Catzone, famous for their vegan pizza with real Neapolitan dough. Named after their namesake Cheshire cat, the entire restaurant has a playful cheeky vibe. Try the AV (ham and pineapple), the Rave Dave (salami) or the Rooney Mara (tomato with capers).

Even those on a healthy plant-based diet feel the need to indulge once in a while. Veg’d is one of the best places in Berlin to do that.
Their menu features a variety of burgers, including chicken, Beyond Meat, and homemade seitan soy patties, all served with a selection of sauces, lettuce, onions, and cheese on freshly baked buns. The fries are perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. (I recommend the Loaded Fries.) Still got room? Finish things off with a Brownie Cookie for dessert.

Vegan Fine Dining Food in Berlin
Cookies Cream
You’ll be forgiven for feeling a bit lost on your way to Berlin vegan establishment Cookies Cream. Tucked into the alley behind a hotel, there are almost no outward signs of the culinary delights waiting within.
The focus here is on the “Magnificent 7,” an all-vegetarian set menu offering five to seven meticulously crafted courses. The menu changes seasonaly but you can expect dishes like braised peppers with jalapeño and capers, and charcoal-grilled turnip with saffron and olive. I was only lucky enough to dine here once, but that experience is a treasured memory.
Tip: While many others are Michelin rated, Cookies Cream is the only vegan restaurant with a Michelin star in Berlin.
Address: Behrenstraße 55, 10117 (Mitte) Map
Oukan
Tucked away on a quiet side street in Mitte, Oukan is worth a visit. The focus here is on Japanese-inspired cuisine, (fully vegan of course) with a strong emphasis on fermentation techniques, reflected in the “Fermentation Lab” located in the cellar.
Expect a creative, ever-evolving menu with six to eight courses. The dishes, while minimalist in presentation, are incredibly complex in flavor. A standout example is the delicately grilled king oyster mushrooms, seasoned with lime, topped with a yeast/brioche crumble, and served with a subtly spicy mushroom broth infused with thyme and apple cider.
Address: Hinterhof, Rote Tür, Ackerstraße 144, 10115 (Mitte) Map
Lucky Leek
The Lucky Leek is a charming vegan restaurant which embraces the concept of “Fine Natural Dining”. The menu features a three- to five-course tasting menu, with à la carte options also available. Utilizing seasonal vegetables, the creative plant-based dishes are bursting with flavor and appeal to both locals and international visitors.
During the summer months, the inviting outdoor terrace is the perfect place to enjoy this exceptional dining experience.

FREA
FREA in Mitte is recognized as Berlin’s first vegan, zero-waste restaurant. They make everything they can here from scratch and aim to reuse what is sometimes discarded as scraps in other eateries. However, you’d never know that judging by the sophisticated plates and flavours. Guest select from three, four or five course tasting menus, including dishes like potato gnocchi.
Note: FREA Bakery (mentioned above) is their more casual sister.

1990 Vegan Living
1990 Vegan Living is a Friedrichshain legend at this point, serving modern vegan Vietnamese tapas-style dishes. (You can also opt for larger family-style sharing plates.) Secret Garden Sushi
Located above the vegan outpost of Rewe (also reviewed here), Secret Garden offers sushi with an all-vegan twist. If that doesn’t entice you at first, note that the menu here goes well-beyond boring old cucumber rolls. Think: fried rolls, truffle rolls and Tempura pyramids. If you’re not in a sushi mood, the wok dishes and curries will keep you well satisfied.

Con Tho
In one word: glorious. Con Tho brings an elevated twist to vegan Vietnamese food. The food here is incredible and the presentation is outstanding. The first time I went here I was a bit shocked at how good it was–especially considering the price!
Con Tho is best known for their huge Vietnamese rice crepes. But their starters are not to be missed. Examples include the blanched leek with smoked tofu and lemongrass-lavender pesto, and grilled nori sticky rice parcels.
Tip: If you’re here during the summer months, take advantage and sit on the bamboo-filled terrace out front.

li.ke : serious||thai||vegan
While there are vegan Vietnamese places all over town, truly vegan Thai food is more difficult to find. Start your tasting adventures at li:ke, where they serve up some of the most incredible Thai food in town. The menu leans towards tapas-style sharing plates, so bring along some like-minded friends. The tofu here is the star of the show. Try the Tau Hu Hod (crispy marinated tofu balls in peanut sauce) or get the Harmony Dumplings (sweet potato and tofu).

IRO Izakaya Vegan
IRO Izakaya is your haven for vegan Japanese cuisine, offering a diverse menu featuring ramen, mochi, curry, udon noodles, sushi, and creative twists like edamame hummus and savory mochi. Inside, the ambiance is sophisticated and the outside seating is a great place to for people watching. Personally, I find the ramen to be a bit underwhelming (admittedly a problem for vegan ramen in general) but the appeitizers are great.

SOY
For vegan Vietnamese food in Mitte, head to Soy. (But be warned: the secret is out here, so be sure to book your table ahead of time.) Tianfuzius
Real Chinese food doesn’t always come easily to vegans. But Tianfuzius will make you (and Buddha) very happy. This plant-focused vegetarian restaurant is primarily vegan, but doesn’t skimp on authenticity–or the spice. It’s Sichuan after all. Some menu stand outs here include the vegan duck in sweet and sour sauce, mapo tofu, and gongbao “chicken”. Want something lighter? Try the cucumber salad.

Mom’s Creation
If you’re looking for the best crispy vegan duck in Berlin, head to Mom’s Creation. Their take on delicious vegan duck, is baked and coated in sesame seeds. But if imitation meats are not your thing, there’s a ton of other options including rice noodle salads, and seitan dishes. For a small extra cost, you can upgrade your noodles to udon.

Ryong
Ryong is another standout in this category, serving both vegan Vietnamese classics and infusion dishes. Prime example: their famous Hulk tempura burgers. Talk about a satisfying crunch! If burgers aren’t your thing, try the Dragon Egg: a tempura fried avocado. Wash it all down with one of their delicious lemonades or a nice cocktail. (Ryong is a vegetarian restaurant but everything can be made vegan.)

Iimori Vegan Ramen
Craving a great vegan ramen? Head to Iimori Ramen in Mitte. I’ve dined there several times and believe their Tonkotsu reigns supreme, closely followed by the Duck Aburasoba. The Tonkotsu boasts a rich, savory broth brimming with garlic flavor, and the accompanying vegan beef patties are surprisingly satisfying. The Duck Aburasoba is an absolute delight for those who don’t mind the absence of broth.
Their fried dumplings are a must-try, offering a perfectly crispy exterior.

Vegan Berlin & German Food
Vöner
Berlin is famous for its döner. But fret not my friend! Here’s the vegan version to give you a true Berlin experience. Initially created ten years ago for a mobile vegan food stall, the Vöner has gained significant popularity. It now offers both a permanent store front, as well as a manufacturing arm to supply Vöner to other cities. The prices are slightly higher than the real thing, but for fast food that’s both healthy and ethical, it’s well worth it.
Address: Boxhagener Straße 56, (Friedrichshain) Map
Curry 61
Berlin is well-known for its currywurst. However, not every stand in town will offer a vegan version. Not so, at Curry 61, one of the most popular chains in the city. Their vegan currywurst consists of seitan and tofu sausage sliced and topped with homemade curry ketchup sauce. Add vegan mayonnaise for the full Berlin experience.

Please note that this restaurant is not vegan or vegetarian. But they do offer a solid vegan schnitzel. This is a great choice if you also need to please a few meat eaters. It’s also got a great location near the bars of Friedrichshain making it a great choice before or after a night out.

Brammibal’s
When I first moved to Berlin ten years ago, I was surprised by its overall lack of designer donuts (oh so trendy in North America). But it wasn’t long before the trend made it’s way into the capital. And, surprisingly, the first ones to truly take the prize were 100% vegan.
These days Brammibal’s Donuts is a well-loved Berlin institution, with eight locations all over the city. As you might expect, they specialize in a huge array of plant-based donuts, with a rotating seasonal menu. (I love the salted caramel and the red velvet cake.) Come here in the fall for their delicious vegan pumpkin spice latte and a pumpkin donut to go.
