Craving tacos? Looking for the best Mexican food in Berlin?

First off: we’re still in Germany, okay? So Mexican food (or Tex-Mex) will never quite reach true Mexico standards. I used to feel rather taco-deprived when I first moved here. However, I am happy to report there’s been a huge improvement in this culinary department over the last decade.

Whether you’re a local looking for new flavors, an expat (like me) or just in the mood for tacos, this list will have you covered.

BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANTS IN BERLIN

1. Tacos El Rey

Taco’s El Rey is the pop-up turned full location of the former Tacqueria El Oso. After a flood shut down their OG location, they’ve now set up shop in cozy Graefekiez. They offer several varieties of tacos, like Ribeye and Green Chorizo, as well as a few veg options like The Vegan Mushroom Taco. But don’t forget to finish it off with their margaritas and delicious horchata. Walk-ins only, so expect a queue during busy hours.

2. Mama Rosa’s

If you want a tropical vibe to go with your tacos, head to Mama Rosa’s in Kreuzberg. Straw lampshades sway from the ceiling, rattan chairs and soft pink accents radiate warmth, and the yellow-tiled bar (where all the food is cooked) glows like a slice of summer. Born from a desire to turn friendly taco nights into a shared experience, Mama Rosas blurs the line between guest and host. The menu is small but vibrant: fresh corn tortillas, guacamole, pico de gallo, and pulled pork, chicken, or vegan tacos made daily, plus plans for fish tacos and collabs with friends. Wash it down with a Margarita, Paloma, or Mezcal Mule (all available alcohol-free) and for a moment, you’ll forget you’re in Berlin. No, it’s not a Mexican beach, but at Mama Rosas, it sure feels close.

3. Pancho Villa Cantina

I went here recently and was very impressed by the tacos! I got the cactus (veggie) and it was amazing. However, I was not so impressed by the margaritas (pre-mixed and overly sweet). So don’t go there expecting those. However, they have Corona (amongst other things of course) so you can still have a great time with your tacos, tamales and other assorted goodies. More info here.

4. Ta’Cabron Taqueria

My personal favorite is Ta’Cabron. This was the first place I found decent Mexican food in Berlin (10 years ago it was a lot harder to find!). The staff is friendly and usually Mexican, which is always a good sign. The margaritas are great, prices are low. The place is small, and typically, you need a reservation on the weekends but walk-ins are possible. Tip: My only gripe is that they never give me enough hot sauce. I need a whole one just for me! Forgive me, but I just cannot split one with the table. (They will do this on request!) Also, I love their horchata.

5. Taqueria Mexa

If you’re after tacos in Friedrichshain, walk your hungry butt on over to Taqueria Mexa. As you might have guessed from the name, this place is famous for tortillas; they make them themselves and you can also grab a bag to take home. (There are other Mexican food supplies as well in the deli.) If tacos aren’t your thing, they also have quesadillas, tortas, and, of course, Mezcal.

6. Sabor a Mi

Sabor A Mi (tastes like me) is the little sister to Taqueria El Oso is also worth a stop. Tacos, tostadas, sopes and more are all served from this bricks-and-mortar location (and sometimes food truck). Specials include pozole and chicken in mole. Tip: Don’t miss their hibiscus lemonade! More info here.

7. El Amigo Tacos

If birria is what you’re after, then this is the choice for you! (But don’t sweat it if you’re veg. They also have a mushroom option.) El Amigo is only open a few days a week (so check the hours before you show up). It’s a former food truck with a new permanent location. While you used to have to stake them out at the Sony Center, you can now find them in Mitte, which is much more convenient in my books. More info here.

8. Maria Bonita

Tucked away in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg, Maria Bonita is a slice of Mexico that’s impossible to miss. Bursting with color, energy, and the irresistible scent of sizzling tortillas, this neighborhood gem offers an escape from the usual Berlin fare. The menu celebrates Mexican comfort food in all its glory. It ranges from tacos and enchiladas to hearty burritos, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options that don’t skimp on flavor. Warm, friendly service and vibrant decor make every visit feel like a fiesta, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a long evening with friends. Next time you find yourself in Prenzlauer Berg, make sure Maria Bonita is on your list! Your taste buds will thank you.

9. Burro Unchained

Looking for more than an imbiss? Burro Unchained offers a more elevated and experimental approach to Mexican cuisine. Think: pastrami tostadas or roast cauliflower with mole sauce, creations all dreamt up by the German-Iranian owner. Considering their more casual joint in the hood, Club der Burro, offers kimchi with their tacos, this comes as no surprise. Note: this is not for you if you’re a stickler for authenticity. Taco & Gringo | Best Berlin Tacos

10. Taco & Gringo

Taco & Gringo stands out in Mitte as a lively spot for those craving bold, authentic Mexican flavors on-the-go. This fast-food style location is casual and self-serve, but still packs a delicious bite. They are known for their array of tacos (of course) but also their signature gringos (a hearty, quesadilla-style dish that’s quickly become a fan favorite) and seriously strong margaritas. For the best experience (and a shorter wait), swing by during quieter hours and savor a little taste of Mexico.

  • Hours: Sunday-Thursday 12-22:00, Friday & Saturday 12-23:00

Honorable Mentions

If you’re after a Chipotle-style burrito or bowl, I recommend Dolores or Mishba (multiple locations). Not to be overlooked, the relatively new viral sensation Munchies offers birria tacos, but I definitely wouldn’t call it a Mexican-style restaurant.
